The plans will be included in an exhibition on show at Locomotion, Shildon between 19 and 23 January before the plans are submitted for planning approval later in the year.

An online version of the exhibition will be available from 19 to 31 January at Locomotion.org.uk/newbuilding.

The centrepiece of our redeveloped site will be a brand-new building. Standing alongside the existing Collection Building, it will significantly increase the covered space and allow visitors to share the inspirational railway story of Shildon. The new building will open in 2023 ahead of the celebrations to mark the bicentenary of the Stockton & Darlington Railway in 2025.

On 19 January (15.00–19.00), there will also be a face-to-face open session at the museum with members of the project team on hand to answer questions and to explain the plans.

A further drop-in session will be held at Shildon Library on 24 January (11.00–15.00).
