Belfast-based fit-out specialist, Portview, and international architecture firm, Hyphen, have been recognised at this year’s SBID International Design Awards by winning in the retail category for their design and fit-out of the world’s largest LUSH store in Liverpool.
Held on 25th October at Grosvenor House in London’s Mayfair, the SBID Awards represent talent and design excellence across all corners of the globe with projects from over 48 countries, including Switzerland, Qatar, Barbados, Monaco, Japan, Indonesia, Brazil and Australia.
The now award-winning Lush Liverpool opened its doors in March after a nine-month transformation into the biggest Lush in the world. Five times larger than its predecessor and spread over three customer-facing floors, the new Lush Liverpool boasts 1,380 sqm of retail space that’s big enough to fit over 9 million of its famous bath bombs.
The characterful scheme by Lush’s in-house design team with international architecture firm, Hyphen, was executed by Portview with an emphasis on enhancing the building’s original features to achieve a look inspired by the character of traditional department stores and be both sustainable and synonymous with the cosmetic brand.
Lucy Dewick-Tew, Architect and Associate at Hyphen, says: “A successful store design should bring a brand closer to their customers and Lush Liverpool engages visitors in a truly unique and immersive way. As well as delivering Lush’s new concept design, we had the pleasure of restoring this historic building to its former glory. This was a fantastic project to project to work on and this award reflects the incredible dedication and commitment of everyone involved. Congratulations to our friends at Lush, Portview, E+M Tecnica, Milk Structures and Michael Grubb – it was a real team effort!”
Managing Director of Portview, Simon Campbell, adds: “We’re thrilled to come up trumps in the retail category at the SBID International Awards, particularly given the calibre of finalists and projects we faced. To receive the award alongside our friends, Hyphen, is not only a testament to the quality of work that went into Lush Liverpool, but also to the people and partnerships that helped to make it all happen.”
At a time when revitalisation is needed more than ever, Lush Liverpool is a new destination shop that brings more innovation and creative personal experiences than ever before to the high street.
New services and experiences include:
• A hair lab offering treatments and cutting services
• A permanent florist selling locally sourced and seasonal bouquets
• Handmade fresh products made onsite
• A perfume library selling exclusive perfumes and books on perfumery
• Shopfloor Lush spa treatments
• A new look Lush spa with six treatment rooms, an exciting party area with new party packs, a coffee/tea kiosk and an abundance of innovative and exclusive new products across makeup, skincare, bath, hair and music.
Simon Campbell concludes: “Not only is Lush Liverpool a one-of-a-kind project, but it’s an entirely unique space that has never been seen in retail or anywhere across the world, and that’s something we’re exceptionally proud of.”
