Understanding Quality and elaborately detailed design is at the heart of Wakefields, Horsham, where the design bar and expectations were set high when they appointed Datum Contracts as part of the team to create this impressive new store.

Established over 50 years ago, Datum Contracts is one of the UK’s leading specialist joinery and shopfitting contractors, working with a wide range of clients in the retail, leisure and hospitality, airports, offices and residential sectors.

Datum has established itself as the leading shopfitter for high-end jewellery retailers, having completed notable projects, including Fortnum & Mason Jewellery Room, Mevaris in the Burlington Arcade, various flagship and boutique stores for Clogau Gold of Wales, W. Bruford Eastbourne, Winsor Bishop and Brown & Newirth.

London-based retail design consultancy, Innovare — who re-designed Wakefields’ boutique store — appointed Datum Contracts to realise their design concept. The new store includes an expanded Rolex showroom, a luxurious new bar and multiple viewing rooms for bridal, fine and bespoke jewellery design. Taking inspiration from the Art Deco period — popular when Wakefields first moved into 11 West Street in the 1930s. The overall design is thoughtfully considered, and includes a stunning new Art Deco glazed rooflight.

The quality of Datum’s finishes and their attention to detail is evident throughout, with the use of stained oak, bronze metalwork, reeded and textured glass, Venetian antique mirrors, Armourcoat polished plaster and leather. The intricate detailing of the joinery in the new bar area, the display cabinets, the viewing rooms, doors, balustrading, consultation furniture and window beds, is a testament to the craftsmanship of Datum’s joiners.

The result is a spectacular new store that has delighted owners, Dominic and Melanie Wakefield, and has been welcomed with open arms by their discerning customers.
